Sam Domett
I have been a motoring journalist for over 15 years, beginning with my own website. I then moved on to the Manukau Daily News. My next job was assistant editor at Driver magazine, New Zealand’s second largest car magazine, for three years. I then started my own performance car magazine. Since then I have been the editor of Automag magazine for a year (until it shut down), and I have written for Top Gear NZ. I have won five car journalism awards, with four of those in the same year.
I was a driver in the 2008 AA Energywise Rally for Hyundai, and spent a year as editor of Truckbody and Trailer, a specialist title that dealt with design and construction of heavy vehicle equipment (until the financial crash ended that).
Currently I road test cars for Automedia.co.nz, and am editor of Autotalk, a magazine dedicated to the manufacturer, distributor and dealer side of the car business. In short I’ve pretty much been in every area of road transport, but also maintain an interest in both aviation and military matters, including restored military vehicles. I am fascinated by the technology that exists and continues to be developed in automotive areas and endeavour to explain them in common English.
